Gurdwara Singh Sabha was established in the historic town of Hangu, just 41 kilometers from the battlefield of Saragarhi, where 21 Sikh soldiers of the 36th Sikh Regiment made their last stand against thousands of Afghan tribesmen in 1897.
This Gurdwara not only serves as a spiritual hub but also a memorial to those who fought for duty, honor, and faith.
About the Battle of Saragarhi
On September 12, 1897, 21 Sikh soldiers under Havildar Ishar Singh defended the post of Saragarhi against ~10,000 attackers. Despite overwhelming odds, they fought until their last breath. Their supreme sacrifice earned global respect, and the battle is considered one of history’s greatest last stands.
This Gurdwara in Hangu is one of the closest Sikh shrines to the actual battlefield, connecting present-day sangat with Sikh martial and spiritual heritage.
